One man is dead and two others are hospitalized after a vehicle crashed into a tree Saturday in Fox Lake, authorities said.

The driver of the car fled from the scene but was captured, Schindler said. Charges are pending and alcohol may have played a factor, he added.

The one-vehicle crash occurred about 4:06 p.m. on Nippersink Boulevard, a short residential street that runs north of Grand Avenue along Nippersink Lake.

Battalion Chief Ed Lescher of the Fox Lake Fire Department said it took firefighters about 40 minutes to extricate the victim, who was riding in a 2004 Subaru. Both the driver and the surviving passenger remain at Advocate Condell Medical Center, authorities said.
