Ellett sisters excelling at NIU

Hampshire’s Ellett sisters are enjoying success on the collegiate links as members of the Northern Illinois University women’s golf team.

The Elletts recently helped NIU place second at the Green Bay invitational. Connie Ellett, a freshman, finished in the Top 10 in the tournament. She trimmed 2 strokes off her first-round of 79 to move up five spots and finish her first collegiate competition tying for ninth with a 2-round total of 156.

Taylor Ellett posted a final round 84 and finished in 19th place with a 163.

NIU also finished seventh at the Cardinal Classic at The Players Club in Yorktown, Ind., recently.

Connie Ellett led the Huskies with a fifth-place finish. She had a 2-round total of 153 (76-77). Taylor Ellett jumped 12 spots after shooting a final-round 79. She finished in 42nd place with a 2-day total of 166.

At the Cougar Classic at Harborside International Golf Center in Chicago, NIU finished fifth. Taylor Ellett moved up 14 spots on the last day to 30th with a score of 164 (83-81), while Connie Ellett cut 10 strokes off her first-round effort and shot 81 on the final day to end in 65th place with a 172.

Krebs honored: Cary-Grove product and current North Park University quarterback Tyler Krebs recently earned College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin offensive player of the week honors.

Krebs, a junior at the school majoring in communications), completed 11 of 13 passes for 167 yards and 4 touchdowns during the team’s 46-21 triumph over Olivet College recently. Krebs did not throw an interception and also had 2 touchdown runs of 29 and 4 yards. Krebs was leading the team in total offense through late last week with 559 yards (186.3 yards per game).

Rosch earns repeat league honor: Cary-Grove alum Ashley Rosch was named the Missouri Valley Conference freshman of the week for a second time this season. Rosch is a freshman outside hitter on the Illinois State University women’s volleyball team.

She was honored for her recent performance in Illinois State’s home series against Northern Iowa and Bradley.

Rosch led the way with 30 kills, 21 digs, 2 aces and 6 blocks against the two teams. She notched a new career high with 22 kills and 26 points in the Redbirds’ 4-set victory against Bradley, recording 20-plus kills for the first time in her career.

She posted her fourth double-double of the season with 22 kills and 13 digs and recorded her seventh match of the year with 10 or more digs and kills.

Rosch hit .326 and averaged more than 4 kills per set in the two matches.

At the time of the award, Rosch ranked first on the team in kills (144) and kills per set (2.94), while ranking third in digs (144) and hitting percentage (. 218).

She earned her first freshman of the week honor for her performance in Illinois State’s three wins at the Rocket Classic in early September.
