Cary couple collects $3.25 million Lottery jackpot in Palatine

A Cary couple plans to invest and do a lot of traveling — Ireland and Hawaii are on the pair's shortlist of places to visit — after hitting a $3.25 million Illinois Lottery jackpot earlier this month.

Mary and Steven Pearson arrived via limo Monday afternoon to Mr. A's Liquors in Palatine, where they collected an oversized check representing their winnings.

Mary Pearson, a 17-year employee of Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington, was at work when she got word that the Sept. 8 Quick Pick Lotto game ticket she bought was a winner.

“When (Steve) told me I won, I was numb,” Pearson said. “I didn't know what to think. I finished my shift and drove straight home.”

To celebrate, Steve Pearson surprised his wife by leaving two dozen pink and peach roses in her car.

Mr. A's Liquor World, located at 855 N. Quentin Road, will get a 1 percent bonus check of $32,500 for selling the winning ticket.

“We're very happy to see one of our regular customers win a jackpot prize,” store employee Faz Rafaqat said.
