Don’t meddle if you don’t live in Dist. 116

After reading the front-page article on the proposed school-based health clinic in Round Lake District 116 (“No place for health clinic in Dist. 116?”), I have just one question: What business is it of Bonnie Quirke’s to meddle in this decision? Yes, I understand that she is the president of the Lake County Right to Life group and has concerns about possible abortion/contraception issues, but if she is not a resident of the district (she’s not; she lives in Libertyville), has no students in any of the district’s schools and pays no taxes to this school district, how does this affect her in any real way?

Your article states that studies have suggested that this clinic will greatly benefit the area, which has a large, low-income population, and the actual residents of the district are being asked for their input. Seems to me that those are the voices and opinions that should matter.

I am tired of certain groups trying to force their thinking on the rest of us. Let the people who live in the area, who have children attending these schools, who pay taxes to this district be the ones to make these important decisions, not some outsider with a not-so-hidden agenda.
