Tour Des Plaines draws 300 bike riders

The annual Tour Des Plaines Bike Ride, which drew about 300 participants Saturday morning, leaves West Park, the first rest stop on the ride. The Tour is nine miles, ending with a beautiful ride up the bike trail around Lake Opeka on its return to the starting point at the Lake Park Clubhouse.

The nine mile Tour Des Plaines Bike Ride Saturday morning drew about 300 participants.

The ride began at 9 a.m. and lasted about two hours. It was organized by Des Plaines Mayor Marty Moylan, the Des Plaines Police Department and the Des Plaines Park District.

Sponsors included Illinois American Water providing water, Panera Bread contributing healthy snacks, Fifth Third Bank providing giveaways and prizes, the Des Plaines Park District providing raffle prizes, Prospect Bikes and Trains manning a repair station, Chiro One offering free screenings, and Des Plaines McDonald's providing giveaways.
