Police said the driver was on the outside lane when he veered off the roadway and swiped a Pace bus stopped south of Oakton picking up passengers. His vehicle then crossed to the east side of Elmhurst when it struck the guard rail and eventually, a Freightliner truck headed northbound.

The victim was transported to Alexian Brothers Hospital in Elk Grove Village, where he was pronounced dead at 7:30 a.m. Police said it's unclear if he suffered a medical problem before the initial collision.

No other injuries were reported injuries from the bus passengers or the truck driver.
