Man killed in Des Plaines accident

A 61-year-old man died after he lost control of his car, sideswiped a bus, struck a guard rail and collided with a truck Friday morning in Des Plaines, authorities said.

The victim, identified as Charles Dessent, 61, of Mount Prospect, was driving his 2003 Cadillac southbound on Elmhurst Road at Oakton Street at 6:25 a.m. Friday.

Police said the driver was on the outside lane when he veered off the roadway and swiped a Pace bus stopped south of Oakton picking up passengers. His vehicle then crossed to the east side of Elmhurst when it struck the guard rail and eventually, a Freightliner truck headed northbound.

The victim was transported to Alexian Brothers Hospital in Elk Grove Village, where he was pronounced dead at 7:30 a.m. Police said it’s unclear if he suffered a medical problem before the initial collision.

No other injuries were reported injuries from the bus passengers or the truck driver.
