Becoming American still dream to many

Every Wednesday morning there is a citizenship test and swearing-in ceremony on one of the floors of my federal office building. On my train ride to the city recently, I heard two older, hushed voices slowly reciting the preamble to the constitution from the seat behind me. I proceeded to hear numerous other facts about America being used to quiz one another during the hourlong train ride downtown.

I feel honored to know that even in times of unrest and political discourse, America is still a beacon of light for many people. I hope hearing that people still yearn to become Americans touches you as this still affects me. We may have many faults in this country of ours, but we will move forward and we will always persevere.
