Buffalo Grove motorcyclist dies after collision

A Buffalo Grove motorcyclist died Tuesday from injuries suffered in a Monday night crash involving a man accused of drunken driving.

Anthony Brust, 21, died from blunt force trauma to the head suffered when his motorcycle collided with an SUV about 8:30 p.m. Monday at Old Route 53 and Robert Parker Coffin Road in Long Grove, Lake County Coroner Artis Yancey said Wednesday.

Charged with both driving under the influence and failure to yield is the SUV’s driver, Joseph Cardinale, 43, of the 11000 block of South Sawyer in Chicago. He was free Tuesday after posting a $3,000 bond.

Officials at the Lake County State’s Attorney’s office could not be immediately reached Wednesday to discuss whether Brust’s death could upgrade the charges against Cardinale.

Authorities said Cardinale was making a left turn in a GMC Arcadia onto eastbound Route 53 from southbound Robert Parker Coffin Road when he struck Brust, who was traveling west on Route 53.

Cardinale was not injured.
