Blackhawks sign defenseman Rozsival

Veteran defenseman Michal Rozsival, 34, has agreed to a one-year contract with the Chicago Blackhawks, team officials announced Tuesday.

With the Phoenix Coyotes last season, Rozsival (ROH-zih-vahl, MEE-khahl) recorded 13 points (G, 12A), 34 penalty minutes and a +8 plus/minus rating in 54 regular-season games. The Vlasim, Czech Republic, native helped Phoenix reach the 2012 Western Conference Final for the first time in franchise history, with 31 hits and 28 blocked shots in 15 games.

Originally selected in the fourth round (105th overall) of the 1996 NHL Entry Draft by the Pittsburgh Penguins, Rozsival has appeared in 756 NHL regular-season games in his career, tallying 260 points and 589 penalty minutes over 12 seasons with the Penguins (1999-2003), New York Rangers (2005-2011) and Coyotes (2011-2012).
