New firefighter sworn in in Wheeling

Ryan A. Burns was sworn into the office of Wheeling firefighter by village clerk Elaine Simpson, on Tuesday in Wheeling’s village hall. Burns comes from a firefighter dynasty: His grandfather served as a firefighter in Chicago and his uncles were fire lieutenants/paramedics for over 30 years in Wheeling.

Usually, Wheeling’s fire chief Keith MacIsaac would have presented badge and helmet to Burns, but in this case, Ryan’s father Philip, longtime firefighter in Evanston and fire chief of Rolling Meadows, performed the duty. His family, city officials and fire department personnel gathered for the event.
