Read the bill? Perhaps you should

Steve Morrissey, in his letter to the editor about the Obama health care plan, suggests people should “read the bill” and then gives totally inaccurate statistics that have been sent in a viral email since 2011. These claims that Medicare Part B will rise to a premium of $247 per person per month in 2014 are totally false.

According the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services, Office of the Actuary, the estimates for Part B premiums are as follows:

2014, $112; 2015, $117; 2016, $122; 2017, $128.20; 2018, $135.50; and finally in 2021, $161.20.

Quite a difference from Mr. Morrissey’s claim of $247 per month in 2014.

These figures can be found on Page 229, Table V. E2 — SMI cost-sharing and premium amounts. Communication from the Boards of Trustees, Federal Hospital Insurance and Federal Supplementary Medical Insurance Trust Funds.

Mr. Morrissey would do well to site his references in the future.
