text size: AAA

A 23-year-old Des Plaines man pleaded guilty Thursday to possessing cocaine and battery to a police officer.

In exchange for the plea, a Cook County judge sentenced Devon McKenzie to 24 months probation and ordered him to pay $1,189 in fines.

Schaumburg police arrested McKenzie in March following an undercover narcotics investigation. Authorities say McKenzie pushed and struck an officer when the officer approached McKenzie's vehicle.

McKenzie was injured in the altercation and required stitches to his head, a Cook County prosecutor said at his March bond hearing.
