One giant leap for humankind?
Neil Armstrong indeed was famous for being the first person to set foot on the moon. But a lady friend of mine who is an ardent feminist considers him to have been gender-discriminatory when he said, “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.” Yes, it would have been a better step had he said, “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for humankind.” So be it.
