Walsh’s refusal to compromise is harmful

I saw a political cartoon in the Daily Herald comparing Republicans to teenagers who complain and criticize, and never come up with constructive solutions of their own. It made me think of my 8th District congressman, Joe Walsh, the poster child of what is wrong with government today.

To be sure, the cartoon is an overstated generalization of the Republican party, but there’s nothing overstated about Congressman Walsh’s total inability to govern in a responsible, constructive manner. All he seems to be able to do is criticize and complain, and, of course, vote “no” on any measure that attempts to take the nation in a positive direction. Compromise for the common good is not part of his modus operandi. His hubristic approach to governance would rather see the government shut down than continue to operate in any fashion that does not conform to his radical ideals. These are pretty bold positions to be taken by someone who won office by less than a 300-vote margin.
