Wheaton native, 23, shot and killed in St. Louis

A day after authorities say she was killed by a gunman in St. Louis, Wheaton native Megan Boken was remembered for her big smile, magnetic presence and a work ethic that made her one of the area’s elite volleyball players. The 23-year-old was shot while in her vehicle on Saturday while visiting St. Louis to take part in an alumni volleyball game at St. Louis University. Full story.

Elgin man dies after domestic disturbance

An Elgin man was found dead Saturday afternoon after a domestic disturbance, according to police. An autopsy is scheduled for today on the 55-year-old man, whose identity is being withheld by police. Police say a 34-year-old woman was taken into custody for questioning, but charges had not been filed as of last night. Full story.

New hospital building opens in Addison

Elmhurst Memorial Healthcare open its newest building yesterday in Addison, replacing the former health care facility at the site, 303 W. Lake St. Addison Health Center includes immediate care, OB/GYN services, radiology and more. “We were seeing this area become a desert when it came to these services,” said spokeswoman Shauna Schuda. “We’re so happy now to provide a range of state-of-the-art health programs to residents of the Addison area.” Full story.

Weather

Partly cloudy and cool with a high of 59 degrees early. Temperatures should reach about 76 degrees before the day is over, but there is a chance for an isolated shower or two throughout the area. Temperatures will dip back to 60 degrees overnight tonight. Full story.

Traffic

Construction continues on IL Route 173 between Deep Lake Road and IL Route 83. This is a pavement patching project that will be in place until October 31st. Lane blockages and reductions are possible. Flaggers are on hand to direct traffic through, please drive carefully through this area. Full story.

Cubs’ Volsted picks up 24th straight “non-win”

While Cubs pitcher Chris Volsted may have been able to avoid a loss on Sunday, he still didn’t pick up a win, making it 24-in-a-row without winning a game. The Cubs lost 3 of 4 to the Cincinnati Reds over the weekend, losing Sunday’s game by 5-4 after Reds hitters broke a 4-4 tie in the ninth off Shawn Camp. Full story.

Numbers up for Arlington Million

Saturday’s Arlington Million crowd of 34,022 at Arlington Park was the largest Million Day crowd since the current facility opened in 1989. The $2,891,660 bet was 13 percent higher than the previous year. The crowd was the fourth highest in the 30-year history of the Million. Full story.

White Sox swept by Royals

The White Sox were almost no-hit yesterday as the Kansas City Royals completed their three-game sweep over the Sox. Paul Konerko reached on an infield single in the seventh to break up the no-hitter on a controversial call, which fans wanted to be scored as an error. The White Sox remain a game and a half ahead of the Detroit Tigers for first place in the AL Central. Full story.
