Elgin police are investigating the death of a 55-year-old man who was found unresponsive and not breathing at an apartment building Saturday afternoon.
Officers at the scene discovered the unconscious man at 132 S. State Street, and found that a domestic disturbance had taken place.
Police responded to the residence, which is a 2-story house that has been converted to apartment units, at 3:47 p.m. Saturday for a report of a person who wasn't breathing, according to a news release.
Paramedics transported the victim to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to police.
A 34-year-old woman who was present at the scene when police arrived was detained for questioning by investigators from the major investigations division.
Police said the investigation is on going and an autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
More information is expected to be available once the autopsy is complete, according to police.
The man's identity was not being released by police Sunday night.
