Bad golfer should fess up

This letter is for the golfer who was golfing at Golf Club of Illinois in Algonquin around 1:15 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 5.

I turned onto County Line Road from Sleepy Hollow and in an instant there was a horrendous crash. When I looked into my rear view mirror, I saw my entire back window had shattered. I could not see out the back window. I slowed down, put on my hazard lights and turned onto Edgewood. I then pulled over down the road where the houses could block any other golf ball from hitting my car.

I called the Algonquin Police who came out and said nothing could be done. I then drove over to Golf Club of Illinois to let them know what had happened. Unfortunately, at that point the back window exploded into my back seat. The golf course confirmed that unless a golfer came forward stating they hit a car, there was nothing I could do. According to Rob Lemke, the club manager, he personally went around asking anyone if they hit a ball out onto County Line Road. No one confessed.

If you know that you are the person responsible for the damage done to my car, please contact Rob. It cost $389.25 to have my window replaced and the glass cleaned up. I know the person who did this knows they hit a car. You would have watched your golf ball sail off course and onto County Line. I have to say, I drove by several golfers on my way down Edgewood and not one of them said, “Hey, are you OK?” or even tried to see if I needed any help.

To say I’m appalled is putting it lightly. I hope that whoever did this will come forward. I know this was an accident. As with all accidents, the responsible party should pay for the damage. I don’t think it’s fair that I should be out $389.25 for being in the wrong place at the wrong time.
