We all must watch over those in need

The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops described Paul Ryan’s budget and social policies as “failing to meet moral criteria by disproportionately cutting programs that serve poor and vulnerable people.” The bishops stated that the budget “makes it more difficult for illegal immigrants to claim child tax credits” which they described as “one of the most effective antipoverty programs in our nation.” They encouraged lawmakers to “protect essential programs that serve poor and hungry people over subsidies that assist large and relatively well-off agricultural enterprises.”

I love my Church and my faith. I hope Catholic voters will ask themselves this question from 1 John 3:17 as they evaluate their options: “But whoever has the world’s goods, and beholds his brother in need and closes his heart against him, how does the love of God abide in him?”
