Please check Medicare facts first

The headline of Elke Trescott’s letter to the editor on July 17 caught my attention. I was surprised at her claim that “Medicare premiums will increase a whopping 100 percent by 2014.” I’m not sure where she obtained this “fact.” When I performed a simple check of various government and fact check websites, I quickly realized that this unfounded rumor is just that. No doubt this is why respectable news media haven’t published any such “fact.”

So Elke Trescott and any other seniors who think our Medicare premiums will increase by a whopping 100 percent by 2014, please sleep well tonight. In the future, you may wish to ask yourself who is spreading such rumors and why such a person would want to scare seniors with such incorrect information.
