Tough life lessons to learn in the stands

At a recent major league ballgame a foul ball was hit into the stands. An adult happened to catch the ball. Unbeknown to him, a few seats down sat a cute 3-year-old little boy wearing his team’s uniform and holding his baseball mitt. What happened next? The little boy broke into tears and the adult was demonized for not giving the ball to him. But wait! A ball was given to the little boy later by the team and people still formed harsh feelings and opinions toward the adult.

The American people are becoming a lot like that 3-year-old. If you don’t get your baseball, metaphorically speaking, just go before a television camera and start to cry. Somebody (the government) will throw you a ball.

Losing that baseball is part of growing up. Life is a cruel journey between now and that little boy’s demise. There will be many lost baseballs. Here’s hoping there are more caught balls than dropped ones for his sake.

Welcome to life.
