Waukegan police arrest 3 on gun charges
Waukegan police late Friday announced the arrested of three men, who it said are self-admitted gang members.
Roberto Amaro, 18, of the 800 block of North Butrick, was arrested Thursday on a warrant for two counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm.
On Tuesday, members of a rival gang approached him in a vehicle in the 600 block of North Butrick and a confrontation ensued, police said. When the occupants exited the vehicle, Amaro produced a handgun and fired at least three times, striking their vehicle and a home in the area, police said. No injuries were reported. Amaro is to appear Saturday in bond court.
In the other arrests, Waukegan police served a search warrant 8 a.m. Thursday in the 800 block of Franklin Street after hearing that the residents were in possession of illegal firearms.
Detectives discovered an illegal sawed-off 12-gauge shotgun and a .38 caliber revolver and arrested two brothers, police said. Police said it’s believed that the brothers were storing the guns for gangs.
Jeremy Ollie, 22, was charged with unlawful use of a weapon and no valid firearm owners identification card. Jonathon Ollie, 22, was charged with possession of a firearm by a street gang member, no valid firearm owners identification card, and possession of cannabis. Bond was set at $50,000 and $75,000 respectively.
