Organized crime expert at Waukegan Public Library

Hipolito Acosta, one of the most highly decorated officers in the history of the Immigration and Naturalization Service, will speak about his new book at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4 at the Bradbury Room at the Waukegan Public Library, 128 N. County St., Waukegan.

“The Shadow Catcher” provides a glimpse by an undercover agent into the organized crime world of Mexico. Acosta oversaw high-profile investigations and successful undercover missions involving illegal operations in Central America, Europe, the Far East and the Middle East.

He was awarded the highest honor given by the U.S. Border Patrol to individuals for bravery and heroism in the line of duty and was appointed District Director U.S. Citizenship & Immigration Services under the Department of Homeland Security in 2004 and retired in 2005.
