Walk, run in Batavia raises funds for substance abuse

“A Night Out Against Substance Abuse,” sponsored by Chris’ Walk Against Substance Abuse and the Midwest Misfits Running Club, will be from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday, July 20, at Batavia Riverwalk.

The event consists of a 5K run/walk and 1-mile walk, followed by an evening of Family Fun.

Cost for the 5K run is $25 and includes a T-shirt to the first 100 runners who preregister. Pledges are encouraged for the 1-mile walk. Register at www.chriswalk.net or call Vicki Foley, (630) 802-1868, for information or registration.

Registration before the race July 20 starts at 5 p.m., with the run and walk commencing at 6:30 p.m. Visit with vendors and receive resources from AA, Gateway, VNA and more. Food will be available, as well as a visit from Jelly Bean the clown, chair massages, raffles and silent auctions.

Speakers for the event are Kane County Sheriff Pat Perez and Charles Haines, author of “In Roads — A Working Solution to America’s War on Drugs.” Clayton Muhammad will take center stage, followed by a concert featuring the Flat Cats, one of the most popular swing and jazz bands in the Chicago area.
