Boomers fall 3-2 to Lake Erie
With runners on second and third and nobody out in the ninth inning, the host Schaumburg Boomers were unable to push across the tying run Tuesday night, falling to the Lake Erie Crushers 3-2.
Catcher Ty Nelson led off the ninth with a single and moved to third when Jereme Milons doubled to the wall in left-center. Lake Erie closer Jonathan Kountis worked out of the jam with a short flyout, a strikeout and a popout.
An unearned run in the second proved to be the difference, as the Crushers (28-25) benefitted from a Boomers (33-20) error and scored on an Adrian Ortiz sacrifice fly.
Brad Duffy picked up the win in relief of Pat Arnold with 2 scoreless innings.
Newly signed righty Cody Griebling made a very solid professional debut, allowing just 2 earned runs over his 6 innings. The true rookie out of Missouri Southern State struck out four and surrendered 7 hits in a losing effort.
Kaleb Engelke, Jason Braun and Sam Robinson combined to Schaumburg 3 shutout innings of relief.
Milons continued to haunt his former team as he reached base in all four plate appearances. The Boomers’ center fielder finished 1-for-1 with a double and 3 walks.
Nate Baumann singled three times for the Boomers, and Chad Mozingo added another 2-hit performance.
