Lt. Gov. speaks at St. Charles ‘Women in Government’ forum
Submitted by Kane County Women in Government
Kane County Women in Government will hold a “Women in Government Forum” from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, July 12, at the Arcada Theatre, 105 E. Main St., St. Charles.
Lt. Gov. Sheila Simon will be guest speaker. The keynote speaker will be Cheryle Robinson Jackson, a former candidate in the 2010 Democratic primary for U.S. Senate. The speakers will be followed by a viewing of the movie “Iron Jawed Angels” starring Hilary Swank as Alice Paul.
Paul is one of the forgotten heroes of the suffrage movement as she and other brave women defied the president and were force fed in prison in their successful efforts to bring women into full citizenship in the United States. The women portrayed in the movie are directly responsible for securing the right to vote for women and the inclusion of women in the political process. This special event is sponsored by Onesti Entertainment.
After the viewing there will be a discussion after focusing not only on the women’s right struggle of the past but also the current political climate with regards to women’s rights and the current war on women.
