Boy, 12, falls three stories from Gurnee apartment

A 12-year-old boy was conscious and alert after falling from a third story balcony at a Gurnee apartment complex early Monday night, according to paramedics.

The boy not only fell three stories from the balcony of his family’s apartment but struck the railing of the second floor balcony on his way down, officials said.

The boy was “horsing around” in the unit at the Woodview Apartments on the 1800 block of North Delany Road, and at about 5:09 p.m. he went through the screen door leading to the balcony and over the balcony’s railing, said Gurnee fire Lt. Heath Graham.

Officials said the boy landed on grass and suffered trauma to his shoulder and arm. He also had neck and back pain, Graham said.

Paramedics took the boy to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville to be treated for the injuries, which were not serious.

Graham said a parent was in the apartment when the boy fell over the balcony.

Gurnee police responded to the apartment complex with paramedics, but police officials said there does not appear to be anything criminal that occurred.
