Bartlett man charged with selling counterfeit DVDs
Cook County Judge Jill Cerone Marisie set bail at $25,000 for a Bartlett man Friday after authorities said they recovered about 90,000 counterfeit DVDs from his home on the 300 block of Oakmont Drive.
Joseph Palmisano, 57, is charged with unlawful use of recorded sounds and images, a felony punishable by one to three years in prison. Probation is also an option.
Prosecutors say the Department of Homeland Security started an investigation after Palmisano received numerous packages from Hong Kong.
Bartlett police, Cook County sheriff's deputies and personnel from the Department of Homeland Security executed a search warrant at the single-family residence about 11 a.m. Thursday, Bartlett police said. The counterfeit DVDs were of popular television series such as “Breaking Bad,” “White Collar,” “True Blood,” “Burn Notice,” “NCIS” and “Castle,” as well as, popular Hollywood movies, police said.
Prosecutors say he admitted to selling the counterfeit DVDs on the Internet at a profit of $220,000.
His next court date is scheduled for July 19.
