Effective July 1, Lake County's fee for a certified death record increased to $12 for the first copy and $8 for each additional copy of the same record issued at the same time, due to a change in state law. Genealogical records will remain at $4. The change requires any Illinois custodian of vital records, which includes the department of health, county clerks, or local registrars, to collect an additional $2 when issuing a certified copy of death or fetal death certificate. The new surcharge fees will be transmitted monthly to the state for deposit in the Cemetery Oversight Licensing and Disciplinary Fund. Visit LakeCountyClerk.info or call (847) 377-2400.
