Fire leaves Wheaton home uninhabitable

A single family home in Wheaton sustained significant damage after a fire Wednesday afternoon.

Capt. Jeff Benda said Wheaton firefighters responded to a call at 2:43 p.m. reporting at house at 976 Tara Court on fire. He said the fire began on the second floor of the house and caused damage throughout, leaving the building uninhabitable.

No occupants were in the house at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.

Benda said the fire was under control at about 5:30 p.m. He said he “couldn’t hazard to guess at the price” of damages.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
