Fire spreads from Buffalo Grove deck to siding

Buffalo Grove fire investigators are looking into the cause of an afternoon fire that started under a backyard deck and spread to the side of a home.

A neighbor across the street from the home on the 200 block of Navajo Trail saw smoke coming over the ranch home and called 911 about 1:15 p.m., according to fire officials.

Firefighters found smoke and fire billowing over the home but were able to quickly extinguish the blaze, said Batallion Chief Joe Weiser.

The fire caused about $10,000 in damage to the deck and the siding on the home.

Weiser said the flames never went into the home, and no one was home during the fire.

Fire investigators said there was a grill on the deck, but they ruled it out as a possible cause.

As of about 6 p.m., investigators said it was too early to say whether the fire was suspicious.

There were no reported injuries.

Firefighters from Arlington Heights, Long Grove and Lincolnshire assisted at the scene.
