Man charged in Waukegan armed robberies
An 18-year-old man who Waukegan police said ordered a victim to withdraw money from an ATM while holding him at gunpoint was caught after a short chase Saturday night.
Police said Alastaire Randle, who is currently homeless, entered the victim’s vehicle in the area of the Fountain Square Shopping Center while armed with a handgun.
Randle ordered the victim to drive to a nearby bank’s ATM, but when they arrived the victim got out of the vehicle to withdraw money and run from the thief, police said.
Randle left the scene near the intersection of Route 120 and Waukegan Road in the victim’s vehicle, which was a rental, according to police.
Officers received a call reporting the armed robbery at 7:50 p.m. and arrested Randle after a short vehicle chase and later foot pursuit.
He was still armed with a loaded revolver when he was taken into custody, according to police.
