Sheriff's deputy dies at home

A veteran Lake County sheriff's deputy died Thursday at his Lake Zurich home, authorities announced. Brian Winandy died of natural causes, according to a news release from the sheriff's office. Winandy had been with the sheriff's office since 1998, working in court security and highway patrol. He had served in the U.S. Marine Corps. Winandy's survivors include his son, mother and sister. Funeral arrangements are pending.
