Lombard man gets 38 years for child sex assault

A Lombard man was sentenced to 38 years in prison Wednesday for the repeated sexual assaults of a child left in his care, prosecutors said.

German Carlos Torres, 50, of the 21W600 block of Lynn Road, pleaded guilty in March to two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child. He was sentenced by DuPage County Judge Daniel Guerin.

Prosecutors said Torres repeatedly abused a girl left in his care between 2004 and 2008. The victim was about 7 years old when the assaults began, according to court records.

Torres was charged in August 2010 after the victim disclosed the abuse, sparking an investigation by Lombard police and the DuPage County Children’s Center.

“He betrayed the victim in the worst possible way,” State’s Attorney Robert Berlin said. “I would like to thank the young victim in this case for having the courage to come forward and bringing this matter to our attention.”

Torres, who had prior arrests for battery and driving under the influence, must serve about 32 years before he would be eligible for parole. He was prosecuted by Assistant State’s Attorney Jeff Muntz.
