Rizzo to join Cubs for Tuesday’s game
The Anthony Rizzo era in Chicago will officially get under way Tuesday, the Chicago Cubs have confirmed.
Randy Peterson of the Des Moines Register was the first to report that Rizzo, a left-handed hitting first baseman with 23 home runs in 60 games for Triple A Iowa this season, was called up by the Cubs.
According to Peterson’s report, Rizzo had a message for Chicago fans shortly before leaving the Iowa Cubs clubhouse for the final time Monday afternoon.
“I want to tell them that there’s going to be good times, and there will there be bad times,” Rizzo said after finally learning he’d been promoted to the majors. “That’s the nature of the game, and that goes for every baseball player.”
Rizzo left Monday’s game for Iowa after his second at-bat in the third inning.
Using their Twitter account, Cubs officials confirmed that Rizzo would be at Wrigley Field for Tuesday’s game.
