Wheaton police subdue naked man with stun gun

Wheaton police said they had no choice but to use a stun gun on a man after he ran through a neighborhood naked and tried to climb into a moving vehicle.

Officers responded about 3 p.m. Tuesday to the 1400 block of East Elm Street after the 20-year-old Wheaton man broke into a home and startled someone inside, Deputy Police Chief Tom Meloni said Wednesday.

“They found him naked and running through the street,” Meloni said. “They tried to talk him into custody but he was incoherent.”

Meloni said the man damaged property at two homes in the area and was pounding on doors. Officers subdued him with a stun gun after he tried to open the door of a passing vehicle, according to police.

Meloni said the man was not injured but was admitted to Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield for observation, which is routine procedure when a stun gun is used. Authorities did not release the man’s identity because he was still hospitalized and had not been charged, police said.
