The U.S. Conference of Mayors announced that Schaumburg has been awarded the Outstanding Achievement City Livability award for cities smaller than 100,000 residents this year for the village's Intergenerational Produce Garden Program. The garden, located near The Barn, is beginning its second year this summer. Ripe produce from the garden is used for the daily nutritious lunch served at the village's senior and teen programs at The Barn, as well as being donated to the Schaumburg Township Food Pantry. The Conference of Mayors City Livability program honors city governments for programs that enhance the quality of life. Among the 10 small cities honored this year, Evanston is the only other one from Illinois.
