Fire causes extensive damage to Villa Park home

A fire caused extensive damage to a Villa Park home early Tuesday evening, and left the house uninhabitable, officials said.

No one was injured during the blaze on the 300 block of Highland Avenue, and most of the fire damage was contained to the attic.

Villa Park firefighters responded to the large two-story home at 5:18 p.m., and brought the box alarm fire under control in about 45 minutes, said Lieutenant Dave Trotter.

The residents of the home were outside when firefighters arrived, he said

The vast majority of the fire damage was in the attic, but there was limited fire damage on the first and second floors and smoke and water damage throughout the home, officials said.

Fire investigators remained on the scene as of about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, and the cause was unknown.

A damage estimate was unavailable, but Trotter said there was extensive damage throughout the home.
