Outdoor concerts return to Geneva Commons

Geneva Commons is ready for the 10th year of making your summer nights full of free fun.

In just two weeks, the outdoor mall’s 10th annual Summer Concert Series will begin.

Concerts will run Wednesdays and Sundays throughout June, and until July 1.

All concerts will take place in the mall’s courtyard near Houlihan’s restaurant, with Wednesday shows beginning at 6:30 p.m. and Sunday shows starting at 5 p.m.

You can set up your blankets or lawn chairs in the courtyard area, or you can mill about the restaurants and stores in the mall and listen as you shop.

The lineup this year includes many returning favorites, as well as some newcomers to the mall music scene.

The series kicks off Wednesday, June 6, with Red Woody, a cover band playing favorites such as AC/DC, Poison and Counting Crows.

It will continue with local favorite 7th Heaven Sunday, June 10, playing the Beatles, Bon Jovi, U2 and more at a frenetic pace.

The rest of the lineup will be Chi-Town Show Stoppers June 13, Soda June 17, Seven Band June 20, Neverly Brothers June 24, Serendipity June 27 and Hi-infidelity closing out the series on July 1.

On the last weekend of the series, the mall will be holding a sidewalk sale. The first 100 attendees to arrive at each of the concerts will get a free fold-up tote from Geneva Commons.

The concerts run until 8:30 p.m. Wednesdays, and 7 p.m. Sunday.

Autograph signing: The new Tilly’s store at Algonquin Commons will be holding an autograph signing next month.

At 2 p.m. June 2, Drama from MTV’s “Fantasy Factory” will be signing autographs at the new store in Algonquin Commons. Tilly’s opened in the mall May 1. It is next door to Justice, and near the guest services office.

That day there also will be free Tilly’s store gift card giveaways and Young and Reckless giveaways to the first 100 customers June 2.

The store will open at 10 a.m. that day.

Kickoff against cancer: Charming Charlie in Algonquin Commons will be hosting the official kickoff for the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk.

The party will be from 6 to 8 p.m. June 14 at the store along the Randall Road corridor.

That night, 10 percent of purchases will go to Making Strides.

You can sign up a team to walk that night, or you can just go to shop and help out a good cause. There also will be free food and drinks.

If you don’t want to wait until the event on June 14, you can sign up a team to walk now by going to makingstrides/acsevents.org or by contacting Mike.Jostes@cancer.org.

The walk will be Aug. 4 at Ted Spella Park in Algonquin.
