West Chicago man sentenced to 18 years for assaulting girl

A West Chicago man who sexually assaulted a 12-year-old girl multiple times been sentenced to 18 years in prison.

Rogelio Montenegro, 35, pleaded guilty Tuesday to two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, according to prosecutors.

Montenegro sexually assaulted the girl at his home on several occasions from July 1, 2011, through Nov. 15, 2011, and authorities were alerted after the girl told a school counselor, according to prosecutors.

School officials informed the West Chicago Police Department, which then contacted the DuPage County Children’s Center.

Montenegro was taken into custody on Nov. 16 at has been held in DuPage County jail since his arrest in lieu of $500,000 bail.

Montenegro must serve at least 85 percent of his sentence before he is eligible for parole and will have to register as a sex offender for life.
