Fire damages Rolling Meadows garage

A fire caused about $30,000 in damage to a Rolling Meadows home Sunday morning, according to fire officials.

The blaze broke out at about 11 a.m. inside an attached garage of a home in the 0-99 block of Applejack Road.

Teenagers who were home alone smelled smoke and a neighbor who spotted smoke rising from the garage both called 911 at 10:59 a.m., said Rolling Meadows fire Lt. Colin Finlay.

Firefighters found fire and smoke showing from the back of the garage when they arrived, and prevented the fire from spreading to the interior of the home, Finlay said.

The Rolling Meadows Fire Department was assisted by firefighters from Palatine and the Palatine Rural Fire District.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze quickly, but remained at the scene for about two hours.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation late Sunday afternoon, Finlay said.

“The guys did a real nice job and kept it to the garage,” he said. “The fire went through the roof.”

There were no vehicles in the garage during the fire, but the garage was at a complete loss, officials said.
