Barrington man critical after Route 14 crash

A 23-year-old Barrington man is in critical condition after being airlifted from the scene of a crash on Northwest Highway Wednesday morning, according to police.

The victim was a passenger in a 2004 Nissan driven by a 24-year-old Barrington man who was also injured in the crash and is in stable condition, police said.

The Nissan was traveling northwest on Route 14 and began to make a left turn onto West Cuba Road in Lake Barrington when a 2006 Volkswagen headed southeast struck the passenger side, police said.

Emergency crews responded to the crash at 7:42 a.m. and flew the passenger of the Nissan to Advocate Condell Medical Center in critical condition, according to police.

The driver of the vehicle was taken to Good Shepard in stable condition and the driver of the Volkswagen, a 31-year-old Cary woman, was treated at the scene and released.

All four lanes of Route 14 were shut down in both directions for about two hours as police and emergency crews responded to the crash.

Police said there was no evidence at the scene that drugs or alcohol played a factor in the crash.

The crash remained under investigation Wednesday night, but citations will likely be issued Thursday, said Lake County sheriff's Lt. Christopher Thompson.
