Tollway crash kills Lake County teen

Illinois State Police are investigating a Saturday morning crash on an Interstate 355 ramp near Downers Grove that killed a 17-year-old Lake County girl.

Amber Adams of Park City was riding in the passenger seat of a 2006 Mercury Montego when the driver of the Mercury cut off a white Ford van, police said. The Mercury struck the Ford and then struck a semitrailer that was parked on the right shoulder of the ramp, said Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Chadd Brody.

Adams, who police said was wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash occurred about 11:30 a.m. Saturday on a ramp leading from I-355 to the Reagan Tollway. The truck was parked on the right shoulder of the ramp, with part of its trailer in the roadway, police said.

The 17-year-old male driver of the Mercury and a back seat passenger were both injured in the crash and were taken to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries, Brody said.

Police cited the driver of the Mercury, who is a Woodridge resident, with improper lane use and cited the driver of the truck for illegal parking.

Police could not say Sunday whether more citations might be issued. There were no signs that alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash, police said.

No other information was available Sunday.
