Elgin police said Saturday they believe someone drove a stolen car off a boat ramp and into the Fox River near the Route 20 bridge.

Police Cmdr. Glenn Theriault said a 2011 Honda with Nevada license plates was reported stolen from Chicago sometime Friday and was discovered in the river earlier Saturday.

Divers determined that there was no one inside the passenger compartment of the car, Theriault said. They then went to work on removing it from the river.
