Pawnshop records lead to arrest in Villa Park burglary

Pawnshop records helped Villa Park police arrest a man suspected of stealing a MacBook computer and other electronics from a home earlier this week, authorities said Friday.

Michael G. Kiery, 21, of Berkeley, was arrested Thursday in Elmhurst and faces one count of residential burglary. He could be sentenced to four to 15 years in prison and up to $25,000 in fines if convicted.

A woman reported the burglary Wednesday when she returned to her home in the 500 block of South Ardmore Avenue and found her MacBook and other electronics missing, police said.

Villa Park investigators found the computer and other electronics at a Melrose Park pawnshop Thursday and identified Kiery from the shop's records.

Kiery confessed to the burglary, police said, and also had property stolen from the woman's home at his residence in Berkeley.

Kiery is being held in DuPage County jail.
