Kojzarek wins GOP nod in Kane County’s 19th District

Kurt Kojzarek, who secured support from several GOP heavyweights, has won the Republican nomination in Kane County’s 19th District.

With all precincts counted, Kojzarek, 32, had 868 votes, while his opponent, Victor LaPorte, 59, had 595 votes.

Kojzarek, the Elgin Township Clerk, works at a property management company in Rolling Meadows. LaPorte, 59, is a retired and disabled elevator technician.

Both Elgin men were running for the office long held by Cathy Hurlbut, who ran for Kane County Circuit Court Clerk this season.

Kojzarek attracted backing from state Sen. Steve Rauschenberger and Chris Lauzen, who won the GOP nod for Kane County Board chairman. Those names left LaPorte questioning Kojzarek’s independence.

The 19th District includes parts of Elgin and Gilberts.
