Woman’s body found in Zion woods
An unidentified middle-aged woman’s body was found in a remote area in Zion early Monday evening, according to authorities.
Passers-by found the woman’s body just north of the Zion Metra station near Shiloh Blvd. at about 5 p.m., said Lake County Coroner Artis Yancey.
Investigators were unable to locate any identification on the woman Monday night, Yancey said.
The woman was not struck by the train, and there were no initial signs of trauma or violence, Yancey said.
“Until we can conduct a closer examination of the body, we are just classifying it as suspicious as of right now,” he said.
Zion Police were investigating Monday night, but refused to comment on the situation until Tuesday morning.
It is unclear how long the body had been in the woods, but it appeared to have been there “for a while,” according to Yancey. Investigators could not approximate a time frame, because of weather conditions.
An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.
