Man riding bike on Streamwood pond falls through ice

A 43-year-old man was rescued from a Streamwood pond Monday after falling through ice.

The man was reported in the water near Glenbrook Elementary School at 3:42 p.m., said Streamwood Fire Department Batallion Chief Robert Wysong.

Witnesses told fire officials he was riding his bike on the ice when he fell through about 20 or 25 feet from shore, Wysong said.

The man was in the water for about seven or eight minutes, Wysong said.

Fire officials said he was never submerged under the ice and was speaking with paramedics when he made it to shore.

Two rescue divers entered the water to pull the man out, police said.

Hanover Park paramedics took the men to St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates, where he is listed in good condition, according to police.

“Visually he looked to be in good shape,” Wysong said.

The rescue comes a day after a Johnsburg man died after falling through ice while playing hockey on backyard pond.
