Stolen horses returning to Spring Grove stable

Four horses stolen from a Spring Grove farm have been found and are making their way back to their stables, breeder Claudia Haugh said Saturday morning.

“We’re trying to get them home now, which is fantastic,” she said.

The four Friesian breed horses were found not far from Haugh’s farm, where she is raising 15 horses, she said. She owns two of the four animals and is watching two of them for someone else.

Haugh noticed the four horses — named Black Silk, Black Iris, Lady Liberty and Lady Bianca — were gone and a fence was broken when she woke up Friday morning.

“I was there when they were born. I stayed there when their mothers were due — I helped them get their first breath,” Haugh said on Friday. “I’ve bred them, cared for them, and loved them. They’re very sweet. Very friendly.”

She contacted local police Friday and said she suspects thieves broke the fence and took the four horses into a waiting trailer sometime Thursday night. She last saw the four horses Thursday evening outside the stable, since the weather was nice enough for them to be out, she said.

Haugh said she expects the horses to be back in their homes by about noon Saturday.
