Man shot outside Gurnee restaurant

A man was shot in the leg during an altercation involving about 15 people in the parking lot of a Gurnee restaurant late Wednesday night.

An officer responding to the In-Laws Restaurant and Sports Lounge for a disturbance call about midnight heard what sounded like gunfire and spotted a dark SUV leaving the scene with its lights off, police said.

The officer sent out a description of the SUV headed south on Route 21 from the parking lot, and police stopped the vehicle less than a mile away, police said.

Officers found the vehicle riddled with a number of possible bullet holes and discovered a handgun on the ground near the vehicle, which was stopped at Route 12 at Washington Street, according to authorities.

The 27-year-old driver from North Chicago had a hand injury and was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, police said. Police arrested him upon his release Thursday but have yet not charged him.

Less than 30 minutes after the altercation, a patient being treated for a gunshot wound at Vista Medical Center West in Waukegan told hospital officials he was shot at In-Laws. A detective responded to the hospital and interviewed the 33-year-old man.

Police said evidence at the scene suggests there was more than person involving in the shooting.

The 27-year-old man and the 33-year-old man were the only two injured, according to police.

Officers with the Lake County sheriff’s police and Waukegan Police Department assisted with the initial investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to call Gurnee police at (847) 599-7000 or Lake County Crime Stoppers anonymously at (847)-662-2222.
