Fremont superintendent honored

Fremont Elementary District 79 Superintendent Jill Gildea last month was awarded a Dianne E. Ashby Leadership Conference Sponsorship.

Each year, Illinois Women in Educational Leadership (IWEL) offers two of the $500 sponsorships to support IWEL members’ ongoing leadership development through attendance at a local, statewide, regional, national, or international leadership conferences.

Gildea will be recognized at IWEL’s 2012 Dare to be Great conference, April 27-28 at Ewing Cultural Center in Bloomington,

IWEL was founded in 1978 as Illinois Women Administrators (IWA). Serving practicing and aspiring superintendents, central office administrators, principals, teacher leaders, and higher education administrators and faculty, IWEL’s mission is to improve Illinois schools by networking and supporting women educational leaders into positions of influence.

Gildea’s 24-year career in education spans from teaching elementary through doctoral students. As an administrator, she has worked in the high school and elementary settings.

In addition to education, reading, writing, and research interests, she is passionate about her wonderfully supportive family. Her professional resolution this year is to learn, share, and collaborate more, and she sincerely thanks the IWEL selection committee for their support in helping her reach this goal.
